Some call it the creative spirit. We, as performers, relinquish control of the music in order to move freely with it, (the spirit). It is like we all got on a raft going down a river. Everyone has a paddle, but we did very little steering. The water flowed strong, and it was an exciting ride!John Churchvillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05362058301920942927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-38853781382165468392011-02-22T10:56:09.509-05:002011-02-22T10:56:09.509-05:00John, I often hear about athletes being "in ...John, I often hear about athletes being "in the zone" when on the field, court, etc. Certainly musicians have those same experiences. What I felt at times for this performance was that THE AUDIENCE was in the zone! Is that weird? No, it was cool. Like something unseen had a remote control guiding us all through the music experience, both performer and listener. Okay, maybe that's weird.Scott Bradyhttp://sumkali.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-68306028405263810812010-11-17T13:05:36.458-05:002010-11-17T13:05:36.458-05:00Hello there, i knew Tully Devine in Haines AK befo...Hello there, i knew Tully Devine in Haines AK before he moved to Juneau. If you want to experience that again, go to any real desert and then simply be very quiet. It is powerful enough that one can understand why the various biblical figures in the ancient stories went out into the desert to escape their concerns before eventually returning and achieving whatever they later are famous for...Aaron Wolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04670838392000704327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-85643512191607997912010-09-22T22:58:47.410-04:002010-09-22T22:58:47.410-04:00Hi John,

Haven't been following your blog but came across your link to this...<br /><br />I've had the same experiences, including sitting down in the middle of the street listening to the silence when otherwise biking around town at 2AM. But I've had two other times where I heard the amazing silence again, once stopping randomly on a quiet highway passing through Utah, and once in the Negev desert in Israel. Unfortunately, by the last occasion I had been exposed to loud music enough (or was just old enough, or whatever the issues may be) that the faint ringing in my ears distracted me from the purity of the experience.<br /><br />Incidentally, if you haven't read W.A. Mathieu's "The Listening Book" you should check it out. It's one of the few things I widely recommend to anyone and everyone and my students. He talks about these exact issues in poetic, accessible and short (as little as one page each)chapters starting with listening and eventually developing toward ways to practice and engage in music.<br /><br />Cheers,<br />Aaron<br />wolftune.blogspot.comAaron Wolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04670838392000704327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-49519320596827686052010-05-12T15:21:26.269-04:002010-05-12T15:21:26.269-04:00I love you, John Churchville. Itis a product used by players of the violin-family of instruments, to make sure that the pegs dont slip and detune the instrument while under string tension. That should take care of it. I'm going to experiment with it and see how it goes. <BR/><BR/>PLUS...I actually changed some of the strings on my mom's sitar. It was my self-imposed lesson in string changing so that I would know how to do it. Thank goodness Samar Kaku sent two sets. I'll be asking for a few more before he gets here. AND I did it correctly...with some help of course. For some reason Joy didn't trust me changing strings. <BR/><BR/>~MMeeta Banerjeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17395395096252847335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-25696803724516695282008-01-02T13:23:00.000-05:002008-01-02T13:23:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9894098.post-32012172821964756342007-10-23T17:16:00.000-04:002007-10-23T17:16:00.000-04:00Those aren't TOO fuzzy.
